AUCTION 2012

European societies are permeated by a very strong class and race discrimination. These mechanisms of structural exclusion reappear in the educational field and thus, people who want to come to study to Austria from a country outside of the European Union (international bureaucracy named them third countries) face exhausting regulations in order to get the residency permit that allows them to study for a limited amount of time. It is required to have in a proper bank account an amount of euros up to €15,000, supposedly as a proof that one is able to cover the costs of living without working for a year in advance. Additionally to the high expenses that involves having to deal with these bureaucratic hurdles, students are normally made to lose one semester as they wait for their cases to be evaluated. This has a clear political nature. This discriminatory regulation makes it impossible for many to come to study to Austria.

This is why we are organizing an auction in the Aula of the Academy of Fine Arts during the Rundgang in January 2012. The purpose is to collect money to fight against the situation. Help us to collect money and protest against this situation to show the perversity of state discriminatory regulations.
